Fix Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 Registry Permissions
 

1. Download the SubInACL tool from Microsoft (see References). Install the tool once you have downloaded it.

2. Open a command prompt. Click "Start" and then choose "Run." Type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press "Enter."

3. Type "cd /d "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"" (without the outer set of quotes) and press the "Enter" key.

4. Enter the following three SubInACL commands to reset the registry permissions:

"subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f"

"subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f"

"subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f"

Enter each command one at a time (without quotes) and press the "Enter" key after typing in each one.

5. Close the command prompt window.
